and please the eye"
There are five breeds of horses identified by the Indian Government as being indigenous to India: Marwari, Kathiawari,
Manipuri, Spiti, and Zanskari
These breeds are currently on the
restricted list for export.
Therefore, there are no Indian breed horses in the UK at present.
Our Mother society is:
About
We are the UK Chapter of the Indigenous Horse Society of India. After many trips to India to see these horses in their native surroundings, at the request of the IHSI, a group of like minded individuals formed the Friends, with the aim of helping these special breeds to flourish in the future.
Projects
Friends of Marwari run a horse Bit Donation Scheme with the aim of providing smooth bits so there is an alternative to the cruel 'thorn' bits commonly in use in rural India. We have over 60 collection points throughout the UK, so to take part and help with a collection in your local area then please read on.
